Every high school senior is unique — and your senior photos should be too. In a world of trends and copy-paste ideas, the secret to truly standout senior pics is simple: personalization.
Whether you’re into sports, music, vintage cars, or simply want to showcase your style, a customized session lets you tell your story. And that’s what makes senior portraits so much more than just pictures — they become a reflection of who you are in this moment.
In this post, I’m sharing how to create senior photos that feel natural, elevated, and one-of-a-kind. If you're a high school senior in Lancaster, PA (or a parent helping plan), here’s how to make your session personal — and unforgettable.
Before we even think about outfits or locations, we start with you. What makes you light up? What do you want to remember most about your senior year?
This is where the magic happens. When your photos reflect the things you love and the energy you bring, they feel real. They feel like you — and they’ll mean more years from now because of it.
Some questions to think about:
What are your favorite hobbies?
Are there any achievements or moments you want to celebrate?
What does your personal style look like right now?
Are there special people, pets, or places you'd love to include?

If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few ways we can bring your session to life in a way that’s personal and fun:
1. Bring Along a Hobby or Talent
Whether it’s painting, baking, photography, or robotics — this is your moment to show what makes you you. We'll style it beautifully and capture it in a way that feels polished, never cheesy.
Ideas:
Paintbrushes, easel, or sketchbook
Camera and favorite film rolls
Baking tools and your signature recipe
Dance shoes, pointe slippers, or a portable speaker for freestyle movement
2. Feature Your Car (or Dream Ride)
Cars are such a cool way to add edge, personality, or nostalgia to your session. Whether it’s your first car, a family classic, or a vintage truck — it becomes part of your story.
We’ll use light, angles, and movement to make it feel like something out of a lifestyle magazine.
3. Incorporate Sports or School Spirit
This doesn’t have to be a full uniform-on-the-field moment (unless you want it to be!). We can layer in jerseys, varsity jackets, or subtle nods to your sport in creative ways.
4. Showcase Instruments or Music Talents
If music is your passion, let’s work that into your session. Whether it's a violin, guitar, or keyboard, we’ll photograph it in a way that feels like an album cover — soft, moody, or bold, depending on your style.
Pro tip: bring your headphones or speaker (old school boombox) and play your favorite songs during the shoot. Music helps everything feel more relaxed and fun.
5. Include the People (or Pets) Who Matter Most
Want to bring your dog? Sister? Grandparent?
Let’s do it. Including a quick portrait with someone special is such a sweet touch — and makes your gallery even more meaningful.

The goal isn’t to copy what everyone else is doing. It’s to celebrate what makes you stand out.
That means:
Choosing outfits that reflect your everyday (just a little elevated)
Picking a location that fits your vibe
Using light and posing to tell a story — not just take a picture
When we build your session around your real life, your senior pics will never feel outdated — they’ll always feel like you.
At the end of the day, your senior photo session is a chance to pause and celebrate where you are right now. Not just the big accomplishments — but the quiet moments, the quirks, the passions, and the people that make you who you are.
If you’re a high school senior in Lancaster, PA and you’re ready for a session that’s creative, personal, and fun — I’d love to help you bring it to life.
Let’s create senior photos that feel as original as you are.
Editor's Note
"We only get a handful of summers with our dogs. We get even fewer with our kids before they become someone else entirely. This journal is my attempt to hold those in-between moments a little longer."
I started this space because the sessions I love most are the ones that happen at the edges. The dog who won't sit still. The senior who's nervous in front of the camera but lights up the second she forgets I'm there. The parent who's trying not to cry.
This isn't a portfolio. It's closer to a field journal. The kind you write when you want to remember what it actually felt like to be in the room.
